Currently, the sale of antibiotics without prescription or mixing antibiotics into feed for livestock, poultry and aquaculture without professional supervision are the main causes leading to antibiotic residues in food and increasing antimicrobial resistance in the community. Without responsible and cautious use, antibiotics can have a serious impact on food safety and human health.

The conference brought together more than 60 delegates including authorities from the Department of Livestock Production and the Institute of Veterinary Medicine at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, leading universities in agriculture and industry representatives from Feed-Farm-Food (3F) companies. The delegates introduced the progress of implementing the national action plan on the use of antibiotics and the prevention of antimicrobial resistance in livestock and aquaculture, as well as discussed goals for a sustainable development of the livestock industry through responsible use of antibiotics in livestock and poultry production. In addition, experts also shared solutions to reduce antibiotic resistance in livestock such as applying biosecurity measures, using probiotics, enzymes, etc. to balance animals’ digestive system, reducing the risk of disease and keeping them healthy.
3F is a closed food supply chain from farm to feed where high-quality meat products are the output, starting with Feed – producing animal feeds; Farm - livestock farm is developed on a large scale and Food - animal products are controlled by manufacturers and processors.
This is the final workshop in a series of three workshops on responsible antibiotic use, including: (1) Antibiotic resistance: Opportunities and Challenges (in human health); (2) Cautious use of antibiotics in animals: change for a sustainable agriculture; 3) Communication workshop to raise awareness on antibiotic resistance for 3F companies.
