To strengthen core capacities for prevention, detection, and response to biological threats, BTRP, GDPM, DAH, and VOHUN developed a Multi-Sectoral (public health, animal health, academia) One Health Approach 2020-2025 Engagement Strategy for implementation, coordination, long term sustainability, and transition of activities for ownership.
The 2020 implementation will be the foundational framework to build a partnership model by linking across all sectors to provide foundational and sustainable Biorisk Management (BRM) practices in Vietnam. Through collaboration, each sector has a valuable role in developing and generating strong values on biosafety and biosecurity (BS&S). Specific objectives include:
- Create a BRM Laboratory One Health Network by engaging all sectors to improve BRM implementation, quality management, investigation capacity and skill, and strengthen laboratory collaborations.
- Strengthen BRM Laboratory One Health Network by establishing a BS&S Committee and International Federation of Biosafety Associations (IFBA)-certified BRM officers.
- Build a cadre of IFBA-Certified BRM Teacher Trainers to train people within and outside their institutions.
- Introduce VOHUN Laboratory Managers to applied Laboratory Risk Assessment best practices by inviting experts from Vietnam institutes (GDPM, NIHE, Pasteur Institute HCMC, DAH, RAHOs) to share experiences and expertise gained from assessments they have conducted.
- Develop Student One Health Emergency Teams within the VOHUN universities in collaboration with government institutions.
- Expand remote One Health BRM case-based learning by engaging government laboratories and academia on a regular basis.
