The objective of the study was i) to describe and evaluate the current status of AMR in veterinary and health care in Vietnam

ii) collect/evaluate evidence of antibiotic resistance of E.Coli as indicator bacteria available at study sites (animals, humans and the environment) that may indicate overuse of antibiotic compounds including, but not limited to, resistance patterns in the indicator selected organisms in humans and animals; iii) to compare the costs of livestock production using traditional methods of antibiotic use and the prudent use of antibiotics in egg-laying and pig-farming establishments and to identify the factors influencing the decision. determine the use or non-use of antimicrobial agents in livestock production facilities; iv) identify and develop a potential intervention strategy based on the outcomes of the primary and readily available objective that applies to farmers, public health/health and the environment. Furthermore, to implement this strategy in communities that agree to improve the rational use of antimicrobials in animals and humans; and v) to demonstrate to policymakers the results of reducing antibiotic use over time in selected communities in both humans and animals, including the costs and benefits of intervention measures; these results will be used as recommendations on antibiotic resistance management that policy makers can address and raise stakeholder awareness about antibiotics (2013-2015).
